What is true freedom in Christ?

You know, as I look around in the secular world I see more and more of how this is what the Bible talks about regarding the last days.
For some, discussion of the last days brings on a bit of uncomfortability. My question to that is, why? Maybe its because we don't understand what God is really wanting from us as Christians. Maybe we feel like there's time later to "do the things of God" right now I'm focused on other things (pleasing self).

Today in my Bible reading I came back across some of my favorite passages in Galatians. Starting in chapter 5 verse 16 it says, "I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh." Let's ask ourselves for a minute what exactly are the desires of the flesh? Well, skip over to verse 19 and he (Paul) tells you, "Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar..."
WOW, that's pretty clear and precise! So why is it that most times when you look at the church or those in the church "Christians" there's usually not that big of a distinction between them and the world? Have we grown so callous to the garbage that makes up our world?

What if...what if...we stopped with all of that written in verses 19-21 and instead changed our course/life to reflect that which reflects Christ? I mean, Christian, that word's literal meaning is, little Christ. Instead, lets imagine that we've changed to live out verses 22-26, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control (that's a tuffy)...Now those who belong to Christ have CRUCIFIED the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, we must also FOLLOW the Spirit. We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another."

Would people (family/friends/spouse/children) respond differently to you if you didn't just call yourself a Christian but every area of your life reflected that of Christ? Would you talk differently? Listen to different music? Wear different things? Purchase different things (cars, house etc)?

What is true freedom in Christ? Paul explains it abundantly clear in verse 13,
"For you are called to freedom, brothers; only don't use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love."

Jesus died so that when God looks at Jesus He sees me, but when God looks at me, He sees Jesus....
